# What is the future of SaaS?
#questions/future-of-saas · #gtm · #saas · #futurism ^e6b92f
This question emerged from direct experience navigating the transition from growth-at-all-costs to a constrained, AI-powered operating environment. I took a sabbatical after burning out—frustrated by how often companies were rehashing the same playbooks, unable or unwilling to rethink GTM for a world of fewer resources, higher expectations, and paradigm-shifting technology. ^399058
This is a broad-scope research inquiry aimed at identifying seams of opportunity: where macro shifts like generative AI, changing capital flows, and the end of predictable revenue open space for a new GTM philosophy.
## Working Language
| Frame | Position |
| ---------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Tension | Can traditional go-to-market models survive the convergence of AI, capital constraints, and user expectations for personalization? |
| Hypothesis | That the future of SaaS lies in building adaptive, composable systems—where GTM becomes a design problem chiefly concerned with orchestration. |
| Challenge | To design and build a new human:machine operating model for gtm. |

## Current Thinking
- The future is less about running playbooks, more about **designing adaptive systems.**
- [[constraint as a precondition for personalization]]
- AI shifts the work from execution to orchestration. Those who thrive will build adaptive systems that key off of deep consumer knowledge and [[marketing judgment is the future|marketing judgement]].
- [[building layered gtm systems]] free us from the classical "Revenue Team," which is an artifact of the predictable revenue era. We need integrated models across strategy, engineering, and operations that enable all functions and all roles to work in all modes interchangeably.
- Value is abstracting away from "apps" and toward composable outcomes—GTM orgs must evolve from message-machines to modular architects.
- [[Composability will define the next SaaS era]]
- The GTM function may split into high-leverage generalists (engineers of motion) and narrow specialists (stewards of craft).

## Related Concepts
- **[[composability]]**: Future orgs will design GTM as a modular system.
- **Marketing Judgment**: In the infinite execution age, discernment is the differentiator.
- **GTM Engineering**: Blurring lines between sales, ops, and automation into an iterative, high-leverage function.
- **Productive Constraint**: Doing more with less isn’t a challenge, it’s a design principle.
- **[[kairos]]**: GTM strategy is about identifying moments of maximum impact—not just following sequences.
