# community as IP ## Current Form Thinking this morning about this importance of community in a "composable" or deepSaaS market. If, as we've postulated, a UX on top of a database is no longer monetizable, what is? Data, obviously. Protocols, less obviously. Community, maybe most obviously? A large, engaged community is an extremely valuable commodity. ### Spark Thinking about Strava. And the absolute explosion of fitness apps out there. So many of them are angling for the "protocol" play: connecting data from one app to another in a novel way. Strava as a paying subscription is about sharing with the community vs. these closed boxes that are about processing data to better know oneself. I know which one has a bigger moat. ### Tensions or Unknowns Really just articulating this so far. It's not particularly novel, but it's something that I think could be an important pillar of what the next generation of SaaS looks like.
