Brosef established communication through magical trickery, learning the construct wished to be deactivated. Galath honored the request, destroying it to reveal only cold iron within. Continuing on, the group triggered an ambush by shadows whose strength-draining attacks left Galath and Broski severely weakened. With aid from Strath and Brutus, the party overcame the threat, uncovering a nearby chamber containing a dozen skeletons in tattered robes. Weary but cautious, the group debated pressing on versus resting. Despite Zeno and Vellynne’s urgency, the party opted to investigate their surroundings, discovering a large chamber with multiple exits and stairs descending into darkness. ^session-summary ## Last Session Recap ![[250217 - Hungry, Hungry Mephits#^session-summary]] ## Session Log ### Hark, a big fuckin' head Post-battle with the flaming skulls, we dive deeper into the [[Caves of Hunger]] on our journey toward [[Ythryn]] and our goal of ending the Everlasting Rime. We encounter the large head of an Iron Golem. - [[Brosef]] uses magic and trickery to make himself understood to the Iron Golem and establish a system for communication, the 'ol two blinks for yes. - [[Strath]] investigates the golem, confirms it's animated by magic, not mechanics - Through conversation, [[Brosef]] indicates the Golem requested to be deactivated/destroyed - After some back and forth, [[Galath]] obligues on behalf of the party with his vicious battle ax. Inside we find only cold iron. ### In which [[Galath]] becomes a shadow of himself Moving deeper to explore empty chambers of the caves [[Galath]] triggers a new encounter with shadow creatures. - Combat starts with [[Strath]] giving aid to the group—some of us are still pretty beat up. - Shadows continue popping up rapidly, their attacks drain strength. [[Galath]] and [[Broski]], both in the thick of it hurting for hit points and strength-based builds, become dead or ineffectual. - Crew eventually starts mopping up, aided by bites from [[Brutus]] even. - Combat revealed shadows were potentially tied to dozen skeletons found in nearby cave, there was some mention of...cloaks or robes. ### Advocating for naptime Given the state of our party, [[Strath]] advocates for exploring the room we're in and holding station until we've had a chance to rest. [[Zeno]] (and presumably [[Vellynne Harpell]]) don't want to waste any time or give [[Auril]] a chance to detect our incursion.
