As they investigated a nearby pool, a massive, centipede-like lava worm erupted from the water, radiating intense heat and unleashing chaos. Reinforced by kobold and zombie allies, the party unleashed a flurry of spellcraft and steel—culminating in the creature’s fiery death. In the stillness that followed, they discovered strange, snowball-like eggs floating in a nearby hot spring and extracted them with care. After a brief rest, the party pressed deeper into the caverns, uncovering a frost-covered grove hidden below. ^session-summary --- ### Session Log #### The Calm Before the Ethelstorm Picking up in the steamy cavern post-worm battle, the gang regroups while the cave starts a-rumblin. - [[Gray]] goes 'gaitin, detects tremors through the icy wall and scouts a side chamber, spotting another pool with three ominous, egg-like snowballs. - [[Zeno]] and [[Strath]] buff up, burning spell slots for protection and preparation. - [[Galath]] attempts to clamber up the icy chute like a brave but foolish goat. - Suddenly, one of [[Vellynne Harpell]]'s kobolds comes rocketing down the chute in a panic, screeching "they come!" Not ominous at all. #### Ethel cometh As initiative rolls are called, the steamy pool _erupts_ again—this time revealing a massive, centipede-like lava-worm with hundreds of legs and unmatched bad vibes. A big ass fire worm named Ethel takes center stage, radiating intense heat and burning everyone in melee. - [[Broski]] and [[Galath]] brace for the worst. - [[Strath]] confirms the kobolds and zombies piling in are [[Vellynne Harpell]]'s, then advises splitting off to avoid being a grouped-up snack, firing off some crossbow in the process. - [[Gray]] tries blinding the worm with Radiant Burst; it mostly works but mostly also blinds himself in the process. - Ethel attempts to chomp [[Strath]] but SURPRISE SHIELD - [[Zeno]] calls up summons his Hound of Ill Omen (a cursed, tiny death puppy). - [[Broski]] starts slashing with a *Shadow Blade* like a demon slayer in his own anime arc. - [[Zeno]], inspired by [[Broski]]’s flair, buffs [[Galath]] with Haste. - The Hound of Ill Omen chomps Ethel for some key hits before being grappled and poofing out of existence. RIP, shadow puppy. - [[Strath]] fires off his new magic ring of the Ram to yeet Ethel back five feet. - Zombies and Kobolds are mostly useless for awhile. - Ethel disappears into the water. #### Ethel cometh...again? Just when it seems like the tide is turning, Ethel tunnels away—only to burst up _through_ the ice below [[Vellynne Harpell]], grappling her with a fiery, toothy embrace. - [[Galath]] unleashes a fury of ax blows, dealing huge damage, but also receiving huge heat damage in the process. - [[Zeno]] and [[Gray]] keep the pressure with spell attacks. - [[Vellynne Harpell]] casts _Tasha’s Hideous Laughter_, and—miraculously—it works. Ethel the Lava Worm laughs herself into incapacitation, flopping prone in a puddle of her own bad choices. - Everyone piles on. [[Galath]] goes full Kool-Aid Man, and Ethel dies in a final wail of lava and shame. #### [[Brosef]] and the Egg Jacuzzi After battle, the team works to establish a sit rep. The cave system appears to be burrows for the worm thangs. To the South it goes down, to the North it goes up. - [[Strath]] investigates an empty room for... vibes, mostly. - [[Gray]] investigates the “snowball” eggs seen earlier—turns out, (via [[Professor Skant]] ) they're real Remorhaz eggs, and their warm jacuzzi bath might be speeding up their hatching. Cold good, warm bad. - The group debates selling vs. destroying them. Valuable? Yes. Dangerous? Definitely. - Meanwhile [[Brosef]], now immune to cold and unbothered by the phase change, strips down and cannonballs into the pool to gather them eggs, girl. - [[Vellynne Harpell]], who heretofore an impatient Nelly, argues for a short rest. - [[Zeno]] identifies his black pearl (still just a pearl). - [[Strath]] analyzes his moonstone (still just a moonstone). #### It's Tunnel Time With multiple tunnels available—up, down, or deeper still—the group decides to scout the lowest passage. - [[Broski]] flies down a winding chute, discovering a frost-covered grove of trees... with pears. Definitely magical pears. - He retreats to report back, and the party ends the session peering down yet another mysterious wormhole.
